Product Care

All of our handmade stoneware is made using 100% lead free, food safe glazes and materials, and created to be both dishwasher and microwave safe. Our quality materials and durable design enable our handmade stoneware to be long-lasting; however, a few habits will help the longevity of your pieces.

Cleaning

Feel free to put your stoneware in the dishwasher. If you choose to wash it by hand, we suggest using a soft scrub brush and dish soap, and avoid metal and/or abrasive sponges.

Temperature Control

Our stoneware is very capable of handling both hot temperatures and cold temperatures. However, when a piece is taken from one extreme to the other quickly, it can cause the pottery to crack or break (example: removing a baking dish from the refrigerator and placing directly into a hot oven). Remember to slowly transition your pottery from one temperature to the next, and you will avoid this circumstance.

NOTE: Due to the thickness and design of certain pieces, we recommend only using our line of baking dishes for baking in the oven (other than warming temperatures) and notpre-heating before placing the dish in the oven.

Elmtree Pottery Care tips…

  • Do not leave in microwave for an extended time, i.e. baking a potato. Take out and check every 3-5 minutes. Extended time in the microwave can cause cracking.
  • Don’t take a cold stoneware piece from the fridge and microwave it, the plate under the food will not heat up at the same rate and it may break your piece.
  • Dishwasher safe: While this is true, I cannot guarantee other dishes in your dishwasher will not bump into and break your pottery piece.  Elmtree Pottery will not break in the dishwasher due to the thermal shock of hot water.
  • Pottery glazes are made of glass formers and all glass is able to be marked depending on the type of use throughout the years.
  • Do not set hot pottery on cold marble countertop, it can cool faster than to rim and crack.
  • While highly durable, we cannot guarantee that your pottery piece will never break.
